| Community life matters to us and to our business.
You will find our team contributing to our community in many ways. Sharing
our knowledge is a passion. So we deliver free first aid instructor training
for Surrey’s Crime Prevention Program.
You will also find our instructors giving free safety and first aid workshops
to many community groups, including:
- Healthiest Babies Possible program
for Pregnant and New Moms, to help
prevent injury and illness and promote wellness.
- Parents and Children Together course for Parents, to help prevent injury and
illness and promote wellness.
- Consumer and Job
Preparation Program at Douglas College for adults with special needs.
We
keep our skills sharp by providing free first aid services at many sporting
and community events. And our instructors are dedicated members of local
search and rescue teams and volunteer firefighters.
Celebrating Heart Month
As first aid specialists, we know that quick thinking
and fast action can save a person’s life. So we celebrate “Heart
Month” by delivering
a free CPR workshop for the public. The course covers prevention, recognition
and how to respond to life threatening conditions until the ambulance arrives.
You will learn how to:
- do a primary survey
- clear a complete and partially obstructed airway (choking) for conscious
and unconscious patients
- perform artificial respiration and CPR for adults, children and
infants.
You will also learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillation (A.E.D.) and how to recognize
the signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke.
At our’ Heart Month’ CPR workshop in February 2006, 130 people
learned life saving skills! The participants ranged in age from 10 year
old children to great grandparents. Our instructors donated their time
to this event and the participants donated $350 to the Red Cross to help
their disaster relief efforts. In February 2007 once again over 100 people learned lifesaving skills and
donated over $300 to the Canadian Red Cross.
So when is the next ‘Heart Month’ workshop? In February again!
Stay tuned for details.
